Precious Metals Market \u2013 A Favourable Time for Precious Metals?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last week, various precious metals markets recorded optimistic price growth. This was linked both to unexpected decisions by the US Treasury Department and to economic escalations between the US and Iran. Investor interest in precious metals was also boosted by trade disputes between the US and Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Between August 19 and August 25, the global gold price rose by more than 2.5% and reached USD 4,636 per troy ounce.<\/p>\n\n\n

The latest financial decisions by the US government undoubtedly contributed to investor interest in gold. It has been reported that, starting from September 9, the US Treasury Department will at least double the size of its buyback operations<\/a> for long-term (10\u201330-year) US Treasury securities. The decision was made in an effort to improve liquidity in the market for long-term US Treasury securities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new US financial measures prompted a decline in long-term bond yields in the US and various foreign markets<\/a> and contributed to the US dollar falling to its lowest levels in the past three months<\/a>. This development is particularly favourable for precious metals. A weaker US dollar helps increase the attractiveness of precious metals denominated in this currency (gold, silver, etc.) to foreign investors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The global silver price rose by more than 1.5% between August 19 and August 25 and reached USD 68.04 per troy ounce.<\/p>\n\n\n

The rise in silver prices was driven not only by developments in the US bond market but also by escalations in the US-Iran conflict. With the United States ruling out the possibility of extending the ceasefire agreement, Iranian representatives threatened to shift towards a more aggressive military policy<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Investors are also concerned about the renewed US-Canada trade conflict. After the two sides failed to reach a mutual trade agreement, the US imposed an additional 50% import tariff<\/a> on various goods imported from Canada. US President Donald Trump also threatened on Monday to raise import tariffs to 50% from January 1 on cars, trucks and auto parts<\/a> imported from Canada into the US. Retaliatory measures from the Canadian government are expected in the near future<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The global palladium price experienced a slight decline between August 19 and August 25. On August 25, the global palladium price reached USD 1,332 per troy ounce.<\/p>\n\n\n

Over the same period, the global platinum price rose by more than 1.9% and reached USD 1,854 per troy ounce.<\/p>\n\n\n
